Many authors have confidence issues – it seems to go with the territory! There are some brash writers out there, true, but many more who are less sure of their abilities and underestimate their own talent, and needlessly so. What ultimately counts is knowing that you have put your heart and soul into your writing, that you’ve done everything you can to present it as professionally as possible and realising that your writing will entertain other people and inspire their imaginations. You have to feel confident if you have achieved all that. And Mathew – you have.
Lots of people have heard of the ‘publish and be damned’ saying. For indie authors, it should be ‘publish and be damned proud’.

Thanks Nick. It can often be little things that get on readers’ nerves like overuse of … or ! or a certain word. Sadly that can distract them from properly appreciating the book as a whole.

I absolutely agree with the entire article. I remember getting back my first book from you and seeing how often I used the word just. Ever since then I’ve a little alarm go off any time I think to write the word in and ask myself if it’s even needed and could I use simething else, like simply.

I also had to learn the hard way not to self-edit a dozen times over. Great tips, Stephanie!
